**The Role**
The APS 5 Telemetry Operator supports technical knowledge, advice and is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve moderately complex project work within a diverse integrated workforce.

Accountable to have and maintain a well-developed understanding of and comply with relevant legislative frameworks, government decision making, Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

APS 5 will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. Undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews and perform procedural and administrative support work to achieve results. They may be required to supervise a team and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training.

The APS 5 RP&SS will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

The position's primary location is based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, however when supporting Range activities, the individual is expected to deploy to the Woomera Test Range and other ranges interstate.

**About our Team**
AFTRSQN provides a safe, secure and controlled Instrumented ‘Advanced Training and Test Environment’ (ATTE) in support of whole-of-Government directed activities, testing of war material and Raise Train Sustain activities to support Force Generation for the Australian Defence Force, our allies and foreign partners.

The team works directly with Range Users and other stakeholders to develop and execute the test environment, including planning, execution and oversight to ensure efficient use of resources to provide a level of range support and instrumentation that best meets customer expectations, integrity of the test environment and compliance with relevant policy.

AFTRSQN is located at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia and offers access to flexible working conditions to support work life balance. Defence provides relocation assistance to eligible APS employees required to relocate. The level of assistance will vary depending on the reason for relocating and your personal circumstances.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of trials project planning and performance processes in accordance with procedures and performance standards;
- Operate Telemetry, Radar, and Optical Tracking systems. Perform supervisory roles of such systems, on deployments to Woomera Test Range or other locations as required;
- Assist with preparations for project test, evaluation and acceptance programs;
- Research, draft and prepare briefs, correspondence and reports;
- Work collaboratively, operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feed-back;
- Engage with stakeholders and understand their expectations and concerns;
- Resolve problems using expertise and initiative to identify alternative courses of action;
- Proficiently operate a minimum of two Range systems and utilise SQN Planning tools; and
- Operate mobile range systems in remote/austere conditions - (Camping Out) for extended periods.
