Centrally located department looking for an EL1 Legal Policy Officer - open to non-ongoing contract or S26

**Your new company**

This department is responsible for supporting Australia's agricultural industries and trade, and managing the threat of any biosecurity risks to Australia. This branch focusses on developing regulatory guidelines, legislation and managing compliance with agricultural exports.

**Your new role**

Your new role will see you support legislative reform and legal policy development along with the following:

- Reviewing the various acts and delegation under the act and ensuring it remains fit-for purpose and future-focused
- Progressing amendments to various Acts by working with external stakeholders.
- Developing and legislative or policy amendments that promote a consistent regulatory approach.
- Administering training on the legislative framework in conjunction with policy areas to build the regulatory and compliance approach.
- Supervising and supporting staff to deliver on project and policy outcomes

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Strategic legal policy experience, with experience in developing legislation in the APS, providing legal advice and implementation of complex legislation
- Stakeholder management experience includes working with external and internal teams with the ability to negotiate effectively.
- Experience and knowledge working with the Export Control Act 2020 or similar Acts.

This position is being offered as a non-ongoing contract but also is able to consider permanently engaged APS staff members who may be looking for a Section 26 transfer.
