Government Department seeking experienced Senior Legal Policy Officer

**Your new role**
This role provides you with an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic team. If successful, you will be required to manage a small team which has responsibility for drafting and interpreting legislative instruments relating to policies. The role will require an ability to engage productively with internal and external stakeholders and to have highly developed written and oral communication skills.

This role would suit a motivated individual who enjoys working across a range of diverse and interesting issues.

Key Responsibilities for this role:

- Managing and developing changes to the legislative instruments to reflect changes to government policy. This includes:

- collating drafting instructions for amendments to Acts, Regulations, Services and Schemes
- drafting subsection Determinations
- drafting explanatory statements, explanatory memorandums and Ministerial Submissions to support these changes
- Developing and maintaining key relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
- Managing and providing operational assistance to officers across the Department in updating and managing the online management system and the external facing web interface
- Preparing Ministerial correspondence, briefing papers and other parliamentary requests

- Demonstrated strong strategic skills in implementing government policy
- Demonstrated ability to deliver work to a high standard with good attention to detail
- Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Highly motivated, engaged, flexible and resilient
- Demonstrated ability to work and negotiate across teams and with external stakeholders
- Demonstrated high standard or written and verbal communication skills
- Interpreting policy and legislation to provide advice to ensure implementations is effective
- Ability to uphold and actively demonstrate the APS Values and Department's behaviours

This role does no require you have to specialised skills or legal qualifications, however does require you to have experience with managing, developing and interpreting legislation.
