About the job

We have an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership for the regulatory approvals processes that support the ongoing success of Alcoa’s Australian Mining, Refining and Smelting operations.

As our Approvals Manager - Strategy & Improvements, you will play a critical part in bringing together stakeholders from all facets of the organisation to ensure long term approval requirements are understood and well planned for to align with global strategic objectives. Reporting to our Director - Regulatory Approvals for the Australian Region, you will develop and implement an approvals strategy and improvements program for all the future regulatory approvals with a key focus on:
- Developing and implementing regulatory approvals governance arrangements and a supporting project plan for all aspects of Part IV and EPBC Act requirements.- Working with Approvals Manager - Part IV/EPBC to develop an approvals implementation plan for all current and future approval projects.- Working with Approvals Manager - State Agreements to develop an approvals implementation plan for the outcomes of the annual Mine Management Plan.- Contributing approvals strategy inputs to the Long-Term Mine Plan and Long-Term Residue Plans for each location.- Working with the regional environmental team to identify regulatory approval headwinds and risks and provided strategic advice for Alcoa’s operations.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.- Substantial experience in the Environmental field with a proven track record of effectively managing approvals processes within the Mining & Resources industry.- An ability to develop practical solutions through ambiguity and embracing ideas and input from your team and stakeholders.- Highly experienced in environmental impact assessment and management plan development.- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse audience.- Expertise in in analysing information from a variety of sources to solve complex environmental challenges.- Strong interpersonal skills, listening skills and the ability to make sound, practical, logical, and balanced judgements.
