**The Role**
Within the Security Strategy, Assurance and Reporting Dirctorate, the Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (WEO) Security Assurance Manager is accountable to perform and achieve complex protective security assurance work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
The WEO Security Assurance Manager will undertake a range of security assurance and reporting activities in support of DST Group’s work with weapons and explosive ordnance, including (but not limited to):
- Developing DST Group’s Tier 3 reporting framework within the Defence explosive ordnance assurance framework;
- Planning, conduct and reporting of tier 3 assurance activities including reporting to relevant DST Group authorities;
- Liaison with relevant stakeholders on explosive ordnance compliance and implementation of the Defence Security Policy Framework;
- Actively ensure that corrective actions from previous assurance activities are implemented within appropriate timeframes;
- Undertake reporting to the Defence Explosive Ordnance Policy Control Owner and the Explosive Ordnance Security Working Group within relevant timeframes; and
- Conduct on going analysis of explosive ordnance security incidents to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in line with explosive ordnance assurance activities.
This position has a whole of DST Group explosive ordnance compliance focus and as such there will be a requirement to travel intra and interstate to undertake assurance activities and liaise with stakeholders.

RTO comprises a professional workforce of engineers, technicians, computational scientists and other staff who provide a wide range of highly specialised and unique research capability and innovative solutions delivering advanced research platforms for defence, national security and the wider IS&T ecosystem.
RTO capabilities accelerate and protect Defences science and technology advances and promote a collaborative, compliant, safe and healthy workplace.
RTOs work areas include:
- Emerging digital science capabilities, including computational and data intensive science, research data and information and laboratory and experimental systems
- Scientific computing including the development and acquisition of a world-class secure High Performance Computing (HPC) capability for advance modelling and simulation
- Nationally recognised, unique and novel research engineering capabilities
- Development and implementation of the Outstanding Research Infrastructure Powering Innovation pillar, a major component of the More Together: Defence Science and Technology Strategy 2030
- Defence innovation, science and technology compliance, assurance and sovereignty through complex research safety, research security, workforce capability and talent and scientific resource management.
RTO also provides specialised research enabling capabilities to other groups and services with Defence, the Australian Intelligence community, our allies and/or our partners in industry and academia. The Research Operations branch is responsible for operational business process reform and performance management of enabling services in DSTG - specifically, Research Safety; Research Security Operations; Research Operations and Infrastructure. RO delivers only those services that are unique to DSTG's specific S&T requirements and cannot be delivered by Defence’s shared service organisations.
- Is passionate about a role in protective security in government;
- Will have a sound knowledge of Australian Government and Defence security principles, policy and controls, understanding Australia’s protective security environment and the importance of protective security in mitigating Defence’s security risks, with specialist skills in explosive ordnance security.
- Will require excellent communication, including well developed writing skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
- Have a demonstrated ability to interpret policy, develop and deliver solutions to complex problems and be able to prioritise work, manage time and deadlines and work proactively and autonomously with limited direction.
- Will demonstrate an understanding of security risk management, the ability to engage with risk and confidently make security risk decisions based on all available information.
