This role provides immediate support to the needs of experimental and trials work programs run by the Advanced Warheads Technologies (AWT) group.

The technician will provide precision machinist support to the experimental programs and field trials that are run within the AWT group and other groups situated in the Explosives Ordnance Precinct (EOP).

Typically, the technician is required to make last minute changes or modifications to components or manufacture necessary hardware during the actual conduct of the above experimental programs and a large portion of the required work will need to be delivered within very short timelines.

**About our Team**
Advanced Warhead Technologies (AWT), is a group within Sensor and Effectors Division based at Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group - Edinburgh, South Australia. The AWT group provides a sovereign R&D capability to design, prototype and characterise advanced warheads and energetic materials to transform future ADF warfighting capabilities.

The AWT group is comprised of chemists, engineers, physicists and various technical specialists who conduct R&D focused on novel warhead concepts for advanced weapon systems and emerging and disruptive energetic materials technologies. It conducts the majority of the work in a variety of on-site laboratories and facilities but also conducts testing at various ADF test ranges throughout the country.

The mechanical tradesperson/precision machinist will have the following skills;
- Ability to act under limited direction and determine the best manufacturing processes
- Experience with high precision machining e.g. warhead, fuze and vacuum components;
- Experience with NC machine tools with and without Conversational Controllers, e.g. lathes, mills and wire cutters;
- Understanding of, and experience with machine cutting tools;
- Use of casting moulds and associated vacuum systems;
- Ability to understand and produce detailed engineering drawings;
**Examples of typical components that they may be required to manufacture/modify/assemble include**:
