**The Role**
As the APS6 WHS Officer you will work within a small and diverse team to deliver WHS auditing services and provide assurance to Commander Joint Capabilities that Defences Youth Protection Policy is being complied with across the Department. You will:

- Be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve audit and assurance activities against both internal and external policy and frameworks. In addition to undertaking auditing and assurance tasks,
- Also heavily assist with reviewing, analysing and making recommendations to update Youth Protection policy and practices for the Department.
- Have the ability to provide technical and professional advice in relation to complex work and must be able to interact well with key stakeholders.

These stakeholders include other Groups and Services within Defence with a strong focus on Navy, Army and Air Force Cadets.

Strong written communication is required for the role as you’ll be required to prepare papers, briefs and audit reports on all facets of the business.

- The Joint Support Services Division’s aim is to provide a range of capabilities and support services, including Gender, Peace and Security, Youth and Youth Protection, ADF Sports and Reserve & Employer Support to contribute to Defence capability and preparedness.
- The Directorate of Youth Protection Assurance is a small yet key part of the Division delivering Youth Protection Assurance against both Defence and Commonwealth policy.
- The Directorate works closely with other Directorates within the Division to enable better outcomes for youth and Defence.

We are looking for an experienced WHS Auditor who also has the skills, knowledge and ability to provide generalist policy and business acumen support in a fast-paced small team environment. You will:

- Bring proven experience in WHS auditing, problem solving as well as stakeholder and relationship management to the role.
- Have a good understanding of the Commonwealth WHS Act and a demonstrated ability to work with Work Health and Safety Management Systems.

An understanding of the Commonwealth Child Safety Framework and the National Principals of Child Safe Organisations would be beneficial.
