**About the facility**

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

**About the Research Directorate**

The Barwon Health Research Strategic Plan 2022 - 2032 outlines an ambitious vision for research at Barwon Health. Led by the Clinical and Co-Director of Research and reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Barwon Health Research Directorate supports delivery of research at Barwon Health consistent with Research Strategic Plan priorities. It brings together research support services provided by the Research Development Unit, Adrian Costa Clinical Trials Centre and Research Laboratory. The Directorate’s work is overseen by the Research Executive Sub-Committee.

**About the role**

The Research Ethics and Governance Officer will fulfil a vital role as a valued member of the Research Development Unit (RDU) team. This position facilitates the ethics and governance approval process for researchers wishing to conduct human research by providing advice and guidance on documents to be submitted for approval, checking submitted documentation, data entry, and liaising with researchers, ethics reviewers and committee members.

This position will involve working as part of the Research Directorate team and with hospital executive to ensure clinical trials conducted at Barwon Health align with the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework (NCTGF). The framework developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care describes the actions required to integrate clinical trial services into health services delivery. It is mandatory for health services that provide clinical trial services to be assessed against the NCTGF as part of the hospital accreditation process.
