**The Role**
The satellite communications (SATCOM) Contracting Team supports projects and products within the systems program office (SPO) across all phases of the procurement lifecycle. The team provides advice and support leveraging commercial acumen to ensure Defence remains compliant and applies best practice when Project and Product Teams are undertaking complex procurement and contracting activities. The EL 1 Contracting Manager is accountable under broad direction to provide strategic contractual and procurement advice and support to the integrated workforce within the Project and Product Teams. The EL 1 Contracting Manager will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and be able to meet relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate best practice procurement and contract management to achieve outcomes. The role is suited to highly organised, pro-active and personable individuals who enjoy working with a high degree of responsibility and client focus mindset.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. **About our Team**
Space Systems Branch acquires and sustains SATCOM systems, and is a trusted advisor of SATCOM systems for the Australian Defence Organisation. The team comprises professionals from various disciplines including project management, engineering, commercial, and logistics. This multi-disciplinary team is composed of highly skilled and motivated Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and contracted personnel. The team works from Brindabella Park offices in Canberra and maintains close collaboration with other parts of Defence and other Government Agencies.

As part of the role in the SATCOM Contracting Team, depending on the role, you will be responsible for:

- Contributing to a high performing team, and developing productive relationships with Project and Product Teams;
- Driving commercial outcomes that comply with Commonwealth Government legislation and policy requirements, driving outcomes to uplift commercial acumen across the SPO, using strong commercial awareness, highly developed interpersonal skills, strong written skills verbal communication skills and knowledge of the Commonwealth Procurement Framework;
- Confident when negotiating with external suppliers and engaging with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and level of seniority;
- Possessing the ability to quickly acquire, a deep understanding of the One Defence Capability System (ODCS) and Defence Commercial Framework; and
- Committing to, promote and model the APS Values and APS Code of Conduct.
