**The Role**
The duties of an EL 1 Assistant Director (Estate Property Manager) occupation in Defence include the following:

- As an EL 1 Assistant Director in the Property Management Branch, you will be responsible for leading a team of internal and out-sourced resources in the planning, development, approval and delivery of range of property functions or projects for the Department of Defence. The EL 1 Assistant Director will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role.
- The EL 1 Assistant Director is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex planning, development, approval and delivery activities and tasks for property related functions within an integrated workforce environment.
- You will be responsible for ensuring that the property functions or projects that are assigned to you are successfully delivered within the required quality, schedule, and cost/budget and will achieve the required outcomes. Your role will be performed under limited direction from the Director and you will have a level of delegated authority to make decisions on behalf of the Branch and the Commonwealth.
- The EL 1 Project Director will require an in-depth knowledge of, and compliance with, legislative frameworks, Government decision-making framework and Defence’s strategic objectives/plans. They will exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice.
- The EL 1 Assistant Director will have in-depth knowledge of the property management function and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function including continuous improvement measures.
- The EL 1 Assistant Director will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
- These positions have people management responsibility and as such you will be required to exercise your people management skills and knowledge to lead and mentor a high performing and cohesive team. You will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of your work area.

**About our Team**
Property Management (PM) Branch is responsible for a broad range of estate related activities across the entire property life cycle, delivered across seven Directorates. PM Branch responsibilities include property acquisitions, disposals, public private partnerships, licensing as well as the domestic and overseas leasing program, ACT office accommodation, Indigenous land matters, and mining on the Defence estate.

The EL 1 Assistant Director should have:

- Strong leadership, executive and people management skills;
- Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems and manage difficult issues;
- Strong communication (verbal and written communication skills);
- Ability to build effective working relationships, have strong stakeholder management skills and be a skilled collaborator;
- Ability to deliver complex real estate property work within an integrated workforce and legislative frameworks, Government decision-making framework and Defence’s strategic objectives;
- Ability to plan, organise, manage your time to meet multiple demands and be adaptable;
- Ability to exercise sound decision making and strong judgement to provide expert policy advice; and
- Have in-depth knowledge of the property services functions and demonstrate ability for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to the work/function.
