Aboriginal Housing Victoria’s vision is to ensure that Aboriginal Victorians secure appropriate, affordable housing as a pathway to better lives and stronger communities.
Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) is an Aboriginal1 community organisation responsible for managing more than 1,600 rental properties for Aboriginal people living in Victoria.
Our vision is to ensure that Aboriginal Victorians secure appropriate, affordable housing as a pathway to better lives and stronger communities.
In addition to being the largest Aboriginal Registered Housing Agency in Australia, AHV is the lead agency for Victoria’s Aboriginal housing and homelessness policy, _Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort_. As the housing and homeless policy lead in the Victorian Aboriginal community, AHV has responsibility to work in partnership with the Government to secure the resources and reforms to implement the policy, while we support sector development to empower Victoria’s Aboriginal community to determine its chosen housing future.
AHV's housing services are targeted to those most in need of support. Through the provision of secure housing by an Aboriginal rental provider, AHV helps strengthen and maintain Aboriginal communities and cultural ties.
The Strategy and Performance division at AHV focuses on ensuring high quality internal governance, policy development and sector leadership. The division is comprised of four teams, three of which are responsible for the implementation of _Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort_: the Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework. The division is overseen by a Director of Strategy and Performance.
Aboriginal Housing Victoria leads a broad range of projects along the five strategic objectives of _Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort_. Reporting to the relevant manager, the project officer will provide critical support in the planning, implementation and delivery of projects in line with _Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort _and the broader goals of Aboriginal Housing Victoria.
The Project Officer will work within their team to ensure that the projects are delivered on time and to a quality standard. Working closely with a broad range of stakeholders including the Aboriginal community-controlled sector and partners in government, the Project Officer will contribute towards impactful change and meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.
Key attributes and skills required for the role include:
- Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing housing rights and addressing housing inequality.
- Demonstrated experience in managing projects from inception to completion, including planning, budgeting and reporting.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges and develop effective solutions.
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing project needs and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare project reports, presentations, and updates for various audiences.
- Experience in using communication tools/systems to support project objectives and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in minute taking, meeting coordination, collation of secretariat papers and keeping accurate records and document management.
- Experience in engaging with government agencies, non-profits, and community groups to advocate for housing policies.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to influence policy outcomes.
This position will be based in our Fitzroy North office.
