**The Australian War Memorial**

The Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum, and an extensive archive. The Memorial's purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. Its mission is leading remembrance and understanding of Australia's wartime experience.

The Retail and Online Sales section is responsible for managing the commercial aspects of the Memorial: the Memorial Shop, the eSales unit (online sales of Memorial Shop products and collection reproduction material), and the Memorial's catering contract for events and cafés.

The Memorial Shop team coordinates the in-store sales of books, homewares, apparel, commemorative products, souvenirs and other products, and contributes to the overall visitor experience by providing exemplary customer service.

The Shop Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day management of the Memorial Shop, and will be responsible for daily Shop open/close procedures. The role will routinely engage with customers; undertake financial transactions (sales and returns); actively manage inventory; maintain Shop overall presentation and housekeeping; and prepare merchandise for online sales fulfilment.

The Shop Supervisor oversees a small but dedicated team, and will liaise with other teams across the Memorial on a regular basis. Customer contact is frequent. Manual handling occurs daily.

**Core Responsibilities**

Under general direction, work with mínimal supervision to:

- Provide high-level customer service to assist with internal and external enquiries relating to Memorial Shop products/merchandise.
- Develop and utilise product knowledge required to meet sales targets and offer promotional items to increase the average sale per customer.
- Complete financial transactions (sales and returns) through use of point of sale, including but not limited to cash handling, EFTPOS, and gift card processing.
- Undertake daily open/close procedures, including cash handling for register and float, and general Shop security.
- Supervise and instruct casual retail assistants to complete daily tasks and operations.
- Actively manage inventory within the Shop and associated storage locations, including product labelling, restocking, and updating changes within the inventory management system.
- Maintain presentation of the Shop by employing visual merchandising standards, upholding WHS standards, and good housekeeping (with particular attention to overall Shop safety and cleanliness).
- Undertake Fire Warden training and undertake Fire Warden responsibilities when required.
- Liaise with other teams across the Memorial.
- Actively adopt new procedures or strategies to maintain efficient operation of the team.
- Undertake special duties or projects as directed by Head, Retail and Online Sales.

**Selection Criteria**

**Essential Criteria**:
1. Customer-focused, with the enthusiasm, drive and energy to work in a fast-paced environment.
2. Excellent communication and liaison skills, along with the sound judgement required to interact, resolve issues, and cultivate productive relationships with a broad range of people.
3. Excellent attention to detail and proficient in completing financial transactions at point of sale, as well as cash handling for morning/end of day reconciliation.
4. Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously or in a small team, and confidence to adapt in order to meet competing priorities.
5. Ability to undertake safe manual handling of a wide variety of items.
6. Have the flexibility and reliability to work across a 7-day roster including weekends and public holidays.

**Desirable Cri**teria**:

- Knowledge of, or ability to quickly obtain an understanding of, Australian Military History to assist with providing a complete and informed customer service.
