**About the role**
As a Strategic Design Lead, you will play a crucial role in establishing our enterprise design practice. Through a collection of initiatives, you will call on your curiosity, creativity and strategic mindset to navigate ambiguity across the full design lifecycle. You will be able to reflect on your experience in leading design projects to identify and translate business goals into innovative and user-centric design solutions. You will weave through the tapestry of our organisation building rapport and confidence in design to create a coherent and collaborative design practice contributing to our overarching business objectives.

You will support your colleagues to develop a design practice and culture that seeks to put the Human back into human centred design. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, and be able to visualise the insights, ideas and unicorns that come up in the many interesting and complex conversations that you’ll capture and facilitate day to day.

To nail this role, you’ll first and foremost be comfortable not knowing stuffyep, even with your wealth of experience in design leadership, your deep understanding of user research methodologies, and your proficiency in design tools. You’ll come ready to learn every day and with your excellent communication skills, you will challenge your colleagues and supervisor to do the same. Your sweet visual and graphic design skills will help share the story and insights we unearth as we innovate, experiment and test ideas across program, policy, service delivery and operations.

Key responsibilities as you design, lead and deliver outputs for collaborative, human-centred projects:

- Methodically integrate design principles throughout the organisation
- Assess current state of design maturity and foster a culture that promotes the integration of design into business as usual.
- Advocate for a human-centred design approach
- Continuously adapt to organisational needs and priorities
- Help develop design practice skills in others through coaching, shared experience and knowledge transfer.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:

- Extremely effective at synthesising complex concepts and conversations into well-articulated and authentic insights.
- Able to drive cross-functional collaboration by facilitating workshops and design thinking sessions.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and inspire
- Proficient in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite to provide appealing and effective visual collateral across the design cycle. (You’ll be so good that you can replicate this in PowerPoint, Word and Acrobat).
- Experience with user research and data-driven design methodologies.
- Familiarity with agile development processes and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

**Eligibility**
- **Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
- **Security Clearance** - The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
