**Who we are**
The Export Regulatory Assurance team is responsible for delivering control assurance reviews across export commodities. Working with internal stakeholders, the team will review relevant instructional materials, training systems and processes to confirm legislation changes have been implemented and are operating compliantly. The team also assists in the maintenance of market access through the provision of internal audits for the department’s export program activities and systems, verification of performance of service providers and the liaison with, and review of activities conducted by state regulatory authorities.
**The Job**
As an assistant director you will play a crucial leadership role in ensuring the compliance of the department and its partners with policies, instructional material, business procedures and the export control legislative framework. The position will operate under broad direction whilst exercising a considerable degree of independence, requiring sound decision making and judgement, and leading a team to undertake work that is complex and/or sensitive. There are two potential positions within the Export Regulatory Assurance team. One will focus on audits of third parties that provide services on behalf of the department. The other will lead the implementation of the department’s control risk assurance framework. Applicants can focus their statement of claims on the duties of the role they are interested in. The duties may include:
- leading the development and implementation of innovative and contemporary business strategies to address operational and program needs
- leading audits of third parties that provide services on behalf of the Export and Veterinary Services Division
- leading reviews of the department’s systems that contribute to export certification to assess adequacy and identify possible improvement
- leading project planning and reporting of auditing and review activities, including critical path documentation
- actively promoting and supporting the implementation of the control framework and guidelines
- proactively encouraging business areas to align their risk management approach with the department’s enterprise risk management system
- liaising and negotiating with stakeholders to manage and support change
- facilitating and participating in risk management committees and various forums to build relationships
- preparing reports and papers for the department’s executive, various boards and committees
- providing support and assistance to the Director and other team members
- contributing to strategic priorities for the team to achieve departmental outcomes.

The ideal applicant will:
- have experience maintaining stakeholder relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- have experience achieving results while remaining positive and respond to pressure in a calm manner
- have a strong understanding of regulatory and/or risk management frameworks
- have experience leading, managing and supporting staff to work collaboratively in a challenging, complex and fast paced environment
- have experience leading project management, risk management and/or auditing processes.
