TIS provides a Security Intelligence function collating intelligence from partners within the national security and law enforcement communities, and with Defence information holdings, to contextualise the threat to both Defence and Defence Industry.

Our work supports a wide range of issues through the provision of diverse outputs, including strategic threat assessments and threat assessments for Defence events and exercises, and timely threat analysis for emerging issues.

The Counterintelligence Section supports the mission of Defence by managing reported contacts of security concern to assist in the identification of attempts to cultivate Defence’s people and/or acquire access to official, classified or sensitive materials. We do this by collecting and assessing contact reports in accordance with the Australian Government Contact Reporting Scheme. As required, we also support law enforcement and intelligence agency partner investigations to counter the threat posed by adversary intelligence collection.
