The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.
**Branch and Section Overview**:
The Travel Team is part of the Financial Systems, Fleet and Travel Section within the Finance Operations Branch. The Branch manages the day-to-day financial functions that underpin the operations of the Department.
Day-to day financial operations includes:
- Accounts Payable
- Treasury
- Banking
- Credit Card Management
- Travel.
The Branch also manages the statutory/external financial reporting obligations of the Department including the production of financial statements; asset management; and taxation.
The Branch maintains and promulgates the financial framework, which underpins financial management across the Department - this spans policies, compliance reporting, and financial education and training services and manages the Department’s financial systems including reporting.
The Financial Systems, Fleet and Travel Section is responsible for effective and efficient management of the Department’s domestic and international travel, sponsored passports, Departments fleet vehicles and financial systems.
The Travel team manages a help desk telephone support connect service for international and domestic travel and passports. The travel team also manages and reports on compliance with the Whole of Australian Government (WoAG) contracts and policies and engages with a range of internal and external stakeholders regarding business operational requirements to meet the Department needs.
**About the Role**:
The Domestic Travel Officer position is part of the Financial Systems, Fleet and Travel Section responsible for the management of the WoAG travel contract arrangements and facilitating the business travel requirements of the Department.
Staff are required to travel within onshore and offshore locations, and between sites to deliver a wide range of services under business operational requirements. The Domestic Travel Officer is responsible for a range of activities focused on providing advice and support to departmental officers, secondees, contractors and consultants and specific user groups on official business travel.
The Domestic Travel Officer will work under the broad direction of the APS 5 Domestic Travel Officer.
**Specific duties/responsibilities**:
The role is responsible but not limited to the following duties:
- Acquire a good understanding of travel related policies and guidelines and assist in the management of day-to-day travel tasks and activities specific to the role, including managing travellers’ official passports requirements acquisition and register
- Provide administrative support through supportive internal and external stakeholder engagement, and contracted service providers for flights, accommodation and airline providers
- Assist with the provision of Travel Help desk support and related tasks via various communications platforms including identifying and escalating systems issues and improvement initiatives to the financial systems support team
- Assist in maintaining travel related registers, reports and data requirements
- Assist in reviewing, updating and/or developing travel related policies and procedural guidelines as required in line with the WoAG contracts
- Other duties as required.
**Role Requirements**:
To be successful in this role you will need to possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, have sound judgement and decision making skills, have knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory and compliance frameworks as they relate to WoAG Travel contract arrangements.
