The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.
**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The **Communication and Engagement Branch** in the Social Cohesion and Multicultural Affairs Policy Division supports Ministerial engagement with communities, including culturally and linguistically diverse communities; and coordinates the Department’s national engagement with communities. The Branch also designs and delivers strategic communications to promote Australia’s social cohesion, in support of priorities for Australia’s social cohesion into the future.
The **Community Engagement (National Coordination and Reporting)** section coordinates Ministerial and Departmental engagement with communities throughout Australia. The section leads the national coordination of the Department’s Community Liaison Officers, providing strategic direction for their engagement with communities in their States and Territories.
**About the roles**:
There is an exciting opportunity at the APS4 level in the Community Engagement section of the Communication and Engagement Branch in Social Cohesion and Multicultural Affairs Division. The role involves providing support to deliver ministerial and departmental engagement with communities and to the community liaison officer network, in the priority area of social cohesion and multicultural affairs.
The Communication and Engagement Branch is recruiting for an APS4 program support officer in Canberra. We are looking for people with a genuine interest in multicultural affairs and Australia’s social cohesion. You will need excellent organisational and time management skills, and communication and relationship management skills, to contribute to a team that delivers high quality outcomes on priorities for Australia’s social cohesion into the future. The recruitment process will also establish a merit list, from which we may fill future vacancies in the Branch and in the Social Cohesion and Multicultural Affairs Division.
**Key Duties**:
- Support the identification and research of current and emerging community issues
- Support the development and analysis of community engagement and reporting
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with a range of policy, program, community engagement, communications, legal, financial and other colleagues within the department and across the whole of government
- Assist in drafting high quality ministerial meeting briefs and provide administrative support for community roundtables
- Support the coordination of ministerial roundtables and the coordination of the Community Liaison Officer Network.
**Role requirements/qualifications**:
- The role occupant must be able to hold and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
- Well-developed administration skills and proficiency in systems such as Microsoft and Adobe e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, MSTeams or similar
- Capacity to liaise with stakeholders
- Ability to assess priorities, triage and manage competing deadlines
- Ability to work effectively without supervision
- Sound problem solving and communication skills.
