**About the Role**
Are you looking to combine your people skills with your experience in animal welfare in a research context? This rewarding new role will join a growing team and will have a strong focus on relationship management and influence. You’ll reporting to the Associate Director Research Ethics and lead a team of Animal Care and Use Advisors who provide context-specific expert advice, education and compliance monitoring regarding the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
You’ll act as a trusted partner with investigators across the program, supporting a Culture of Care and influencing best practice in animal welfare. The Manager role is advisory and operates through influence, establishing credibility with stakeholders and becoming sought out as a trusted advisor.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead and manage the Animal Care and Use Advisory team, including developing, coaching and mentoring staff, managing performance and promoting a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, oversight and direction for the Animal Care and Use Advisors to ensure delivery of a high quality, context-specific service that establishes credibility and influence with investigators and other members of the Animal Care and Use Program.
- Promote a Culture of Care to all stakeholders across the Animal Care and Use Program to influence and support compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
- Direct and deliver strategic projects, including the development and review of policies, guidelines, procedures and processes relating to the care and use of animals in research and teaching.
**Who we are looking for**
This role will suit an experienced people manager with a background in the care and use of animals in research. You will have many relationship partnering responsibilities, so you will need to have the gravitas and confidence to convey complex information efficiently to a wide range of audiences in an engaging and effective manner.
You will also have:
- Extensive experience leading and developing a team, with demonstrated ability to communicate key strategic objectives and support staff to achieve organisational goals in a large and complex environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the care and use of animals for scientific purposes and regulation of the use of animals in a research setting.
- Outstanding relationship management and consulting skills including the ability to engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, influence and negotiate at the highest levels.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering strategic projects, including the development and review of policies, guidelines, procedures, and processes.
