**About the Role**
As part of the University's commitment to enhancing research ethics, the Research Ethics Officer (Animal Ethics) plays a key role within the Ethics Shared Service model, providing centralised and efficient administrative support for animal ethics submissions. This position requires a thorough understanding of relevant principles, University policies, and regulatory requirements, and also contributes to the development of information resources and training programmes related to animal ethics.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and acting as Secretary to an Animal Ethics Committee (AEC), liaising with researchers and staff to resolve issues and provide expert advice on animal ethics.
- Supporting the ethics review process, maintaining accurate records and contributing to training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supporting positive compliance culture under the direction of the Senior Research Ethics Officer and the Manager, Animal Ethics.
**Who we are looking for**
You will have a strong administrative background with excellent communication skills, capable of distilling complex information into clear and concise outcomes to be communicated to relevant stakeholders. Your attention to detail, process-driven mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement will be essential. Additionally, your ability to manage confidential matters with discretion, provide high-level advice, deliver training to diverse audiences, and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines effectively will be key to your success.
You will also have:
- A degree in sciences or equivalent expertise and experience in research administration.
- Knowledge of ethical research principles and external regulatory frameworks, such as the POCTA Act.
- Familiarity with the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
