Job Description

An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Animal Technician/Team Leader to join the Bioservices Department at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position

The Team Leader/Senior Animal Technician will undertake tasks associated with the care, husbandry and maintenance of genetically manipulated mice in the facility. They are expected to be technically competent in a good range of techniques and to be a point of reference for researchers, supervisor and technicians within the suite. The role of a Team Leader is to undertake all tasks required of an animal technician while also being responsible for the supervision of two Animal technicians within the suite.

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Diploma of Animal Technology (or equivalent)

  • At least 6 years practical experience in a medical research environment with mice

  • Familiar with AEC documents, requirements and procedures

  • Good computer literacy

  • Proficiency in a large range of techniques commonly used in a mouse research facility

  • Ability to mentor and train staff under their supervision

  • Proficient in the use of Excel and Word

Personal Qualities:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate across varying levels of the organisation

  • Good observation skills and attention to detail

  • Conscientious and reliable

  • Good leadership skills

  • Displays Institute values and embraces Institute culture

  • Available to work on some rostered public holidays and weekends

Terms of Appointment
This position is an ongoing role in a full time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level PSE5 ($82,018 - $94,209). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
