**The Role**
The APS 6 Work Health and Safety Officer role is critical to assisting SEG to meet its work health and safety obligations.

The incumbent will be responsible for a small team to monitor and manage incident reporting and safety risks across SEG. They will engage with various areas of SEG and relevant contractors to positively influence how safety risks and incidents are reported and managed, providing detailed guidance where necessary. They will be responsible for ensuring SEG documents relevant to safety risks and incident reporting are current and providing value across SEG and SEG contractors, also providing input to broader Defence matters and documents as needed.

The incumbent will have excellent attention to detail and be able to develop practical work health and safety solutions based on legislation, policy and procedures and required outcome. They will regularly undertake research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessments and investigations to improve health and safety outcomes across SEG.

The incumbent will need the skills to build team capability through coaching and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within the work unit. They will be accountable for coordinating work, maximising their contributions to the team while also making independent decisions relating to their areas of responsibility.

**About our Team**
The Directorate of Work Health and Safety (DWHS) provides advice on the impact of Work Health and Safety legislation, Codes of Practice, prescribed Australian Standards and Defence policy requirements. DWHS provides input and information about Group and Defence WHS policy and procedures that support our business outcomes. DWHS is responsible for the coordination of work health and safety for the Group’s products, services and systems. A critical facet of this endeavour is working with other groups and services within Defence and the Commonwealth WHS Regulator (Comcare) to remediate health and safety issues. DWHS is the custodian for SEG Safe, the Group WHS management system, and the SEG WHS Due Diligence Framework.

We are looking for a highly motivated and adaptable person to join the Directorate of WHS. The successful applicant will:

- Be able to provide accurate technical advice in relation to WHS matters
- Have an eye for detail and be able to recognise and analyse critical information
- Be able to undertake complex work tasks under limited direction
- Be comfortable in coordinating workflows and monitoring simultaneous work packages to ensure tasks are completed to a schedule
- Possess organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prepare correspondence on both routine, complex and multifaceted matters
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with various stakeholders to influence safety outcomes
- Be adept at working under pressure and responsive to rapidly emerging priorities
- Be self-motivated
