**About the Department of Chemical Engineering**
We are a large Department with approximately 25 teaching and research staff, 30 full time research staff and around 90 PhD students.
Academic staff have been elected as Fellows of the Royal Society, the world's oldest scientific society, the Australian Academy of Science, and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

**About the Role**
Fantastic opportunity to play a key role in our collaborative research project between industry partners and CSIRO, QUT and The University of Melbourne. The Super Anode Project is based within the Cooperative Research Centre for Future Battery Industries and aims to develop improved methods for the spheronisation and coating of graphite/silicon anodes, as well as investigate avenues for up-scaling of these processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with our industry and research partners, develop an experimental plan for the inclusion of silicon in composite anodes.
- Defining the benchmark process for characterisation of industry standard graphite: silicon composite anodes.
- Considering various methodologies for the inclusion of silicon in graphite composite electrodes, i.e. hybridisation. Using AnteoCoat, characterise the physical and electrochemical properties in composite anodes using industry standard binders and electrolytes.
**About You**
You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders. Your problem solving and organisational skills ensure the effective management and completion of tasks within agreed deadlines.
You will also have:
- PhD in Materials, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering
- Extensive experience in working with silicon and the fabrication and characterisation of composite anodes for lithium-ion batteries
- Proficient in lab-scale electrode slurry mixing and electrode coating
- Experience in Li-ion cell fabrication, including electrode coating and cell assembly and familiarity with quality control methods used to evaluate the repeatability of assembly processes
