**About the role**

Our Government client is seeking an experienced Principal Policy Officer who has Policy and Legislation experience.

You will be working as part of a team to develop high quality policy and legislation to improve the regulation of safety and health in Queensland's mining, petroleum and gas and explosives industries.

The client is interested in someone who has had experience in government processes for developing legislation including development of policy, consultation, and legislative changes, working with parliamentary drafters, cabinet submissions and preparation of material for the parliamentary committee process and the parliament process.

**Key duties will include;**
- Provide professional, accurate and timely policy advice to the department and other key stakeholders
- Prepare complex documents including discussion papers, reports, submissions, briefing notes, legislation, presentations, speeches, publications, policy documents and correspondence

**Criteria**:

- Demonstrated experience interpreting complex legislation and understanding highly technical issues to deliver policy and legislation which provides improved safety and health outcomes
- Demonstrated experience liaising with key government stakeholders on complex and contentious issues to achieve policy objectives
- Ideally have demonstrated experience in developing an operational policy
- Demonstrated experience working within a government department
- COVID vaccination is not mandatory for this role
