**Tell us how**
**your**
**story makes you so well suited for this important policy role....**
First established almost half a century ago to support the carers and families of people with mental illness, this unique and progressive NFP operates under the leadership of a skilled, values-driven and energetic CEO. This new Policy & Advocacy position has been created to further develop the important work already achieved in establishing representation at high levels for carers of people with mental issues across the nation.
Your responsibility will be to research, formulate, write and develop policy designed to cement and grow existing relationships with influencers such as government bodies, funders, service providers and other strategic stakeholders.
Clearly, this indicates you need significant understanding across the mental health area along with outstanding communications abilities. Your experience should be strategic and include working in a senior position that has shaped policy and decision making. But you need also to be very comfortable in hands-on, face-to-face operations - such as establishing and growing warm relationships - with diverse people at all levels of business and society.
Exhibiting a high degree of professionalism, you may be presently working in the policy space, have done previously or are keen to move onward and upward from a complex operations/service delivery role. Your involvement may have been in government, or perhaps an NGO, in education, health, or social work and may (ideally) also include lived experience in a caring role.
Self-contained, composed and genuinely caring, adept at research, analysis and advanced report-writing, you are able to listen actively, write clearly and persuasively and solve problems with a minimum of fuss. Measured and tactful, you are skilled at negotiating challenging conversations and asking those questions, providing solutions or options most likely to influence change.
**Above all, you need a particular flair for articulating a policy position calmly and objectively.**
If this sounds like you, please be aware that this organisation values the experience and contribution of people who have a lived experience of mental illness and how it touches their carers and others around them. We would like to hear your story and how this has prepared you for success in this exciting leadership role.
