Manager Policy and Legislation
**About the Role
We are looking for an experienced policy and legislation officer and leader to manage a high-performing policy and legislation team with responsibility for the development and maintenance of Queensland's liquor and gambling policy and legislative regulatory frameworks.
As a Manager, Policy and Legislation you will manage the day-to-day operations of a dedicated policy and legislation team including supervision of projects and staff, performance assessment, mentoring, coaching and effectively utilising resources to meet Regulatory Policy's strategic and business goals. You will be required to provide strategic policy advice, research and analysis on liquor and gambling (including harm minimisation) related issues to senior executives and the Minister.
We are looking for a team member who can work under pressure autonomously and lead a high-performing team to prepare quality written documentation such as cabinet submissions, discussion papers, explanatory notes and drafting instructions. You will be required to manage the development of new legislation through the relevant Cabinet, Parliamentary and Executive Council processes and establish, shape and foster relationships with the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, government agencies, industry peak bodies, community groups, and other external stakeholders.
This is a permanent full-time position. While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, qualifications in law, public policy, or other degrees relevant to the role will be favourably regarded.
Why Work for the Justice Policy and Reform Division
Regulatory Policy Branch in the Justice Policy and Reform Division of DoJ undertakes policy and legislation development for the Government and supports DoJ's operational branches, in relation to the legislative and regulatory frameworks for liquor, gambling, consumer protection, occupational licensing, associations and cooperatives, charitable fundraising organisations and activities, as well as community titling and body corporate governance matters. We work to empower consumers and sustainably minimise gambling, liquor and consumer related harm.
Our people have a diverse range of technical skills and experience in public policy, law, business, behavioural sciences, academic research and the development of evidence-based solutions. Our team is intelligent, innovative, friendly and has a passion for minimising harm. Using research, community comment and industry input, we provide advice to assist Government to solve complex problems and make balanced decisions in the public interest. Due to our involvement with Cabinet and Parliamentary processes we are predominately located in Brisbane City. However, we recognise our work impacts all of Queensland.
