About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. As an area within the department, Youth Justice is committed to the demonstration of the departmental values at all times: serve the community, work together, act with integrity, respect other people and make it happen.
Youth justice custodial centres accommodate young people aged 10-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18-21 year olds sentenced by Adult Courts to a youth justice custodial centre.
What does the Principal Project Officer do?
A new youth justice facility has been constructed at Cherry Creek in Melbourne's western suburbs, presenting an exciting reform opportunity for Youth Justice. As the Principal Project Officer, you will be involved in the facility's development and establishment, contributing to a new evidence-based operating model.
You will provide expert advice to key senior executives and business partners, working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, you will lead development of models of care and services for young people in custody.
You will operate within a complex and dynamic environment that requires sound judgement, the ability to develop and maintain effective key stakeholder relationships, using influence and negotiation skills to support the provision of clear advice and effective, timely actions.
This position is based at head office in Melbourne with regular travel to the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct.
What skills should a Principal Project Officer have?
To be successful in this role you will have the ability to manage, plan and deliver key service delivery models, consult with key service providers and provide expert advice on service priorities.
A tertiary qualification is social sciences, criminology, humanities or related field is also desirable.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
