The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Principal Project Officer, Corrections Workforce Strategy to provide a critical role within Office of the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria.
About the Business Unit
Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) is part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's adult corrections system, including Community Correctional Services, public and privately operated prisons, and a transitional centre. CJS is made up of several business units including Corrections Victoria (CV), Policy, Strategy and Offender Outcomes (PSOO), Justice Services and Group Services and Coordination.
To address the recommendations of the Cultural Review, a small team is being established in the Office of the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria to commence priority work on workforce uplift. Team members will ideally bring complementary skills in relevant areas such as strategic planning, project management, workforce development, stakeholder engagement and/or change management.
About the Role
Reporting to the newly created position of Assistant Commissioner, Workforce and Integrity, the Principal Project Officer will lead a Corrections Workforce Strategy team being established to commence priority work on workforce uplift, including development and implementation of workforce initiatives that uplift the learning, development and supervision of all levels of the custodial workforce to support the professionalism and integrity of the system.
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Lead the development of a workforce strategy that will uplift the training, development, supervision and support provided to the adult custodial corrections workforce.
- Develop and manage a program plan of interconnecting projects to take forward implementation of a series of workforce training, development and supervision initiatives.
- Develop and implement a workforce engagement strategy and work closely with correctional staff, prison General Managers, the department's People and Culture Group and other key stakeholders across corrections, the department, community and government to coordinate and drive a significant reform agenda to uplift the capability of the adult custodial corrections system workforce.
About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- Proven track record in planning, project management and coordinating delivery of complex projects or workstreams.
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in at least one of the following areas, or demonstrated ability to understand and analyse relevant themes and issues quickly:
- strategies to develop and maintain workforce capability including learning, development and supervision
- complex change management in a service delivery or complex operational setting
- current policy direction, operations, research and issues within corrections and the criminal justice system more broadly.
- Strong conceptual, policy and analytical skills with ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues.
