About the role

The Oil and Gas Community Campaigner will lead the outreach, facilitation and community organising work to ensure that AMCS has a strong and vibrant movement to protect our oceans from offshore oil and gas. They will work in close collaboration with established community and stakeholder groups. The position will work with the AMCS Communications team to deliver strong and engaging communications material and build a strong public and social media profile for the campaign.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Activation:_
- Mobilise and organise AMCS volunteers to stop new offshore oil and gas exploration and development
- Liaise with and support existing community and stakeholder groups
- Relationship development with ocean users (divers, tourism, fishers etc) and other local and community stakeholders
- Organise and facilitate campaign engagement events and activities
- Represent AMCS at community events, network meetings and gatherings
- Undertake local advocacy as needed with decision-makers including local MPs and councillors
- Communications:_
- Coordinate communications and social media content for community organising
- Produce written and online campaign materials that inspire, and engage target audiences
- Undertake local media for the campaign and support others to be active voices in the media
- Work with the Communications team at AMCS to deliver creative communications materials for social media campaigns

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

- Essential Selection Criteria_
- At least 3 years experience in community campaigning and alliance building.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and demonstrated experience using digital communications channels and assets to organise community activation and outreach.
- Demonstrated event planning and coordination skills
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and relationship-building skills, including a track record of successfully engaging diverse stakeholders and community groups
- Campaign experience and understanding of climate and/or marine environment issues
- Commitment to upholding AMCS’ values and a passion for protecting our oceans and marine life.
- Desirable Selection Criteria_
- Facilitation and public speaking skills
- Creative campaign and strategic thinking
- Existing connections to the movement against the oil and gas industry, and/or ocean users
- Qualifications and/or training in community organising and engagement
- Qualifications in communications, marine science or related fields.
