**About the role**
As the Archive Officer, you will supervise and conduct the archive management program, projects and processes, to ensure proper transfer / sentencing / disposal of physical and digital records holdings in accordance with the Public Records Office Victoria (PROV) Disposal schedules.
Key responsibilities include:
- Interpret the retention and disposal authorities for sentencing records and liaise with team members / line management when unclear.
- Assess and make recommendations to improve the management of archival holdings both physical and digital.
- Assist the Information Management Operations team with processing daily requests for archival materials, including communicating with the requestor to clarify details, research and retrieval of archival records.
- Provide supervision, direction and training to staff and contractors on the archive management processes.
- Manage the records disposal process which includes the identification of records due for destruction, communicating this to each relevant Department, and getting appropriate approval for disposal.
- Conduct disposal holds when directed by line management.
- Liaise with Council’s secondary storage provider and PROV to ensure the proper management and retrieval of records.
- Adhere to all Council’s policies and procedures relevant to this position.
- Carry out other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time to time.
**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have a qualification at tertiary level in Records or other Information Management related area or equivalent relevant experience within the Archives / Records Management field.
Essential Experience:
- Experience in the field of Records / Archiving and having a sound understanding of related practices including the ability to sentence, archive, classify/catalogue, index and register records.
- Experience in and understanding of relevant legislation for records and electronic document management, especially the Retention and Disposal Authorities relevant to local government records.
- A proven ability in prioritising work and meeting strict deadlines.
- The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- A commitment to the delivery of high quality customer service and make recommendations for solution implementation using continuous improvement methods.
- High level of communication and problem solving skills.
- The ability to undertake the physical activities involved in archival duties.
- Experience in Local Government is desirable.
