The **Department for Environment and Water (DEW)** invests in South Australia’s future social, environmental and economic prosperity and well-being. Aiming to be a flexible, responsive, and influential adviser to Government, DEW delivers high quality policy and programs across a range of portfolios. Critical to its success is the Environment, Heritage and Sustainability Division, which drives key policy and action, protecting built and natural heritage, supporting climate change mitigation, overseeing landscape management and pastoral leases as well as facilitating dog and cat management for South Australians.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Environment, Heritage and Sustainability, you will play a critical role managing and developing government policy and strategy associated with planning, heritage, coastal and dog and cat management. You will direct DEW’s interface with the planning system, engaging with developments of state significance and lead South Australia’s input into key environmental reform. Overseeing a diverse team of up to 70 staff, you will provide supportive leadership to drive performance across all four units that are aligned to the department’s strategic priorities. Stakeholder management will be at the forefront of what you do, supporting the branch’s statutory and regulatory function and providing advice to key stakeholders across local council, statutory boards and the public and private sector.
