**_Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunities Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent_**

**The Opportunity**

We are looking for an Aboriginal Project Coordinator to join our Infectious Diseases Epidemiology team, here at The Kids Research Institute Australia.

The team has a particular interest in acute chest infections which are a major cause of childhood illness. Some population subgroups experience higher rates of severe disease from chest infections including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, babies born preterm and those from a lower socio-economic background.

The Aboriginal Project Coordinator will work in collaboration with the research team to provide cultural input on several epidemiology-based research projects. Day-to-day activities will include assisting with Aboriginal community and key stakeholder engagement, supporting the facilitation of the projects under the guidance of project leads including data collection and management, and knowledge translation activities to ensure we work closely with and report back to community.

Specifically, this role will assist in the facilitation of projects to understand the community awareness of respiratory infection, particularly respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and immunisation.

With an experienced team around you, your responsibilities will include:

- Acting as a point of contact between our team and participating families and community groups

- Co-facilitating qualitative interviews and yarns.

- Providing input into design and implementation of knowledge translation activities.

- Contributing to the development of resources and reports, including Research Ethics reports.

- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with local, state and national Aboriginal health and medical services.

Based in our office in Nedlands, this position will be offered on a part-time basis (3-4 days per week) for an initial period of 2 years. There may also be the opportunity for travel within Western Australia to undertake community consultation.

**About You**

If you share our passion of Happy, Healthy Kids and have an interest in learning more about infectious diseases and immunisation, then we want to hear from you

The key to your success will be your demonstrated skills and experience in the following:

- Experience in the health sector, the community sector or other relevant experience.

- Demonstrated knowledge and interest in understanding of Aboriginal health and wellbeing.

- Demonstrated experience in building relationships and working collaboratively with key stakeholders at various levels.

- Current “C” class driver’s licence and willingness and ability for regional travel
Previous experience in undertaking research projects and/or project coordination (e.g., involvement in conducting interviews, yarns etc) is highly desirable but not essential for this role.

If you meet many, but not all, of the role requirements, we encourage you to apply. We also welcome you to mention any career breaks in your cover letter to help us understand your journey.
