The Cancer Institute NSW is the NSW Government’s cancer control agency, established to lessen the impact of cancer across the state.

**_ What you will be doing_**

In this role you will be required to actively communicate over the phone with participants and health care professionals regarding bowel screening test results following participation in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. The PFUF Officer encourages participants along the bowel cancer screening pathway but does not provide clinical advice.

In addition, the PFUF team contributes to corporate knowledge to support the NSW Bowel Cancer Screening Program to meet strategic priorities.

You will have demonstrated experience in:

- Providing a high quality, person-centred service including adherence to privacy and confidentiality legislation, as well as efficient and accurate data entry, reporting, and record management.
- Communicating effectively and sensitively to establish rapport in challenging circumstances, e.g. participants who are distressed when faced with a positive result (noting that the majority of positive results do not result in a cancer diagnosis).
- Adapting communication styles with various audiences, such as participants and health care professionals, regarding medical procedures and health care systems, screening and diagnostic processes.
- Participating in peer review, quality assurance and/or quality improvement processes.
- Interpreting and communicating best practice guidelines, understanding possible risks and outcomes for participants of not following evidence-based guidelines and clinical advice, and understanding relevance and importance to different target audiences.
- Contributing to broader organisation initiatives such as the NSW Cancer Plan which aims to increase early detection of cancer and improve cancer outcomes.

**_ Essential requirements_**
- Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline and/or relevant experience in a health/science field.
- Extensive communications skills and experience working directly with customers/patients in a customer service or ideally health environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in small work group teams to provide a high-quality service.
- Experience in managing stressful or critical customer/patient interactions with mínimal direction.
