**About the Stream, Group or Branch**:
The Department of Social Services develops policies and delivers programs that improve the wellbeing of individuals and families in Australian communities. We are building an inclusive workplace that embraces our employee’s differences and diversity of backgrounds to realise our potential for delivering services aimed at enhancing the lives of vulnerable Australians.

The Community Grants Hub (the Hub) provides end-to-end grant management for Australian government departments, agencies and organisations. It oversees the management and delivery of grants from 12 locations across Australia. The NSW State Office manages government-funded programs that are delivered through third-party service providers across NSW and nationally. It also represents the department at the state/local level including gathering intelligence to inform policy design. We support the implementation of departmental initiatives, which are aimed at improving the lives of our community’s most vulnerable.

The NSW State Office is comprised of four Branches:

- Health Grants Branch - Manages grants on behalf of the Department of Health, supporting health service delivery to some of Australia’s most vulnerable people. Responsibilities include Disability Support for Older Australians, Commonwealth Home Support Program, Indigenous Australian’s Health Program, Alcohol and Other Drugs program and Financial Assurance
- State Network Branch - Manages regional DSS policy and program grants, supporting the provision of family, disability and community services across NSW
- Disability Employment Services - This section acts as the conduit between the Community Grants Hub and Disability Employment Services (DES) Policy and Supported Employment Policy.

The role of the NSW State Office is to:

- ensure grants, contracts and services are implemented on time, on budget and in accordance with policy frameworks to help achieve expected outcomes for service recipients
- provide local intelligence and evidence-based information to policy areas
- professionally manage grants, administered procurement and regulation, including risk and the associated grant recipient relationships
- use our local or place-based intelligence and capabilities to improve service delivery
- undertake compliance activities including where necessary investigating and reviewing complaints and service provider performance.

The Department offers a challenging and meaningful career committed to improving the wellbeing of individuals and families in Australian communities. We are a people-based organisation that encourages flexible working conditions and opportunities for promotion and development in a career where you can make a difference to your community.

**Position Description**:
We are looking for a high performing, experienced leader to fill an Executive Level 1 (Assistant Director) opportunity in Sydney. Assistant Directors work with the Director and the Executive Leadership Team to set strategic direction, achieve high quality outcomes and create a shared sense of purpose aligned with Departmental priorities.
They lead and manage a team, participate in business planning, oversee corporate responsibilities and require high-level stakeholder management experience including representing the department at jurisdictional, service provider and community meetings.

The current vacancy is in the Health Grants Branch, however a merit pool will be established from this process to fill potential future opportunities over the next 12 months across the NSW State Office.

To be successful in this role, the following experience will also be highly regarded:

- high performance leadership skills to ensure confident leadership, management and coaching of a team through ambiguity, instilling a sense of collective purpose to drive the delivery of program outcomes to high professional standards
