**About the organisation**

GetUp is an independent campaigning community and movement of more than one million everyday people working to build a progressive Australia and put people back into politics.

GetUp works on a range of campaigns in the areas of First Nations Justice, Climate Justice, Economic Fairness, Human Rights and Democratic Integrity. From making sure hundreds of thousands of people can vote in elections, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the Great Barrier Reef, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health.

Whatever they do, they do it with as many people as possible - using their hands, hearts, and voices to fight for justice on the issues that matter most.

This newly created position will be integral in assisting in the design and delivery of major strategic and organisational change, while ensuring operational excellence across the organisation.

The COO will provide leadership and the strategic management necessary to ensure there are the proper operational controls, processes, procedures and resources in place to effectively align and grow GetUp and to ensure both financial strength and sustainable operating efficiency.

**Key accountabilities of the role**
- Contributing to and driving forward the strategic direction by being actively involved in the development and implementation of the long term strategic plan
- Direct management of the Operations Team and it’s functioning to support the goals of the organisation
- Responsibility for staff management, performance, professional development, and recruitment processes.
- Promoting a positive organisational culture that supports high performance, strategic alignment, strong employee engagement and sustainable work practices
- The position and duties of the Company Secretary
- Where relevant, publicly representing GetUp to funders, community partners, and political stakeholders.

**Knowledge, skills and competencies**
- A strong, proven record of working at an executive level, including strategic planning and operations management
- A high-performing leader, experienced in implementing transformational change within a complex environment
- A background in the NFP space, with an understanding of politically-engaged campaigning
- Previous experience with governance and compliance issues, or as a company secretary
- A demonstrated commitment to GetUp’s values of political independence, equity, and social justice
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a high emotional intelligence
