The position manages the day-to-day business processes and systems within the
ranger services area. They provide an important role in contributing to an
environment of continuous improvement and excellent customer service. The
position may also be required to undertake some components of work off site. The
position is one of several Technical Assistants within the Branch and as such may be
required to support other teams.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Principal Environmental Ranger
Staff Responsibility: Nil
Key Internal Relationships: All Branches and Groups.
Key External Relationships: Community members; State Government
Departments & Pound Contractors.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
Contribute to the development of an annual business plan, Companion
Animals Management Plan and programmes in conjunction with the team and
monitor progress.Manage registers and administrative processes relating to the functions of the
position, including but not limited to Companion Animals Register, Pound
Register, EPA RID Online, Protection of the Environment Operation Act, and
the NSW Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act.Provide excellent customer service, through the accurate resolution of
customer inquiries, and where necessary, ensure customer inquiries are
passed on to the correct officer for resolution.Co-ordinate educational programs aimed at improving community awareness
and compliance related to ranger initiatives via social media, web-based
media, and print media. Maintain accurate information on BMCC webpage
around companion animals and related educational programs.Maintain relationships and workflows between the various branches / teams
within the Group, other parts of Council and external parties to ensure the
enforcement of regulations and that customers are provided with a seamless
service.Take an active role in the implementation of e-business opportunities and
field technology, inlcuding parking technology and web interfacesGuide staff in the use of corporate software and hardware including the use of
digital devices and field technolgy.
Workplace Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but
are not limited to identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and
notifying your Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety
Representative); never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which
you do not have the experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and
training or where the correct equipment to carry out the task safely is not available;
always work in a safe manner and in accordance with safety instructions, where
applicable; use the work equipment supplied for the job, in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions), and any personal protective equipment, which the
Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety aware and report any actions
to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet its legal workplace health
and safety obligations. You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe
work. In addition, you are required at all times to comply with Councils Asbestos
Management Plan and Policy.
Compliance & Risk
You are responsible for ensuring that you conduct your risk management
responsibilities as described in council's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Policy
and Procedure (the ERM Framework) with the goal of ensuring that potential issues
are identified and reported in a timely manner.
In undertaking your work should you identify contaminated land or potentially
contaminated land, including but not limited to Asbestos contamination you are
required to notify your supervisor immediately.
COMMUNICATION
Explain and resolve complex issues / policy to the public and to assist in their
enquiries using research techniques.
Liaise with staff at all levels, management and other key customers and contacts to
co-ordinate and follow-up on a range of activities.
JUDGEMENT & PROBLEM SOLVING
Identify and raise emerging and urgent issues.
Address operational issues to ensure successful completion of priorities.
AUTHORITY
Contribute specialised skills to complete tasks associated with the functioning of the
Team.
Responsible for providing advice to customers that may commit Council to a course
of action within the boundaries associated with the position.
SKILL, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURAL
COMPETENCIES
ESSENTIAL
An extensive range of experience (typically gained over a period of 5 years) in project
management or administration or equivalent demonstrated competencies.
Relevant tertiary qualifications at the Certificate III level (ie., 600 hours face-to face
learning), or equivalent demonstrated competencies gained through on-the-job
learning.
