The Technical Assistant Hazardous Materials is responsible for:
- Day-to-day administrative functioning of the Hazardous Materials Team
- Provide high level customer service to internal and external customers relating to
the inspection, status and
- Education and training of staff and members of the public (if required and when
appropriate) in relation to the management of asbestos containing material
- Coordination of Council’s effluent removal service, including invoicing and
contract management

In addition, the position will assist the Program Leader of Hazardous Materials with
project management of hazardous material removal works, training programs, the
development and implementation of long-term strategies, and programs for the
management of hazardous materials. The position will also be involved in the
development of potential commercial activities related to the management and
removal / management of hazardous materials, and liaison with appropriate agencies
to coordinate council’s response to illegally dumped material throughout the LGA.

Commercial Services, Chief Safety Officer,
Customer Service Team, Natural Areas Team.

**Key External Relationships**:SafeWork NSW, EPA, Regional Illegal Dumping
Squad (RID), Residents / ratepayers and the
general public, Contractors, Sporting Groups,
Community Groups, Commercial Tenants.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES -**

Develop and adopt comprehensive office management, secretarial and other
support practices that respond to the style of working and requirements of the
work area
- Manage the day-to-day administrative functions of the Hazardous Materials
Program area.
- Arrange and actively participate in management team meetings. Organise
agendas, minutes and follow up on outstanding actions.
- Interpret, review and finalise asbestos registers and management plans for
delivery to Council owned assets.
- Assist Program Leader in the drafting of formal reports, presentations and
response to enquiries from the general public and elected body;
- Coordinate and/or prepare reports to Executive Management Team, memos to the Chief
Executive Officer, and other meetings as required.
- Facilitate the production and management of Request for Quotes and Tender
process for asbestos removal and hazardous material related purposes
- Working collaboratively with the other projects within the Property & Commercial
Services Branch to achieve the broader objectives and goals of the Branch.
- Liaise with external agencies,
- Provide guidance and coaching of staff in the systems and processes of the team
on the use of corporate software.
- Assist in the project management and implement aspects of Council’s Asbestos
Eradication Program
- Maintain relationships and workflow between the Teams and other parts of Council
to ensure that customers are provided with a seamless service.
- Monitor the customer service quality and capability of the team, and take steps to
improve it as necessary.
- Undertake record keeping activities in accordance with Councils Records
Management Policy, Branch Procedures and State Records Legislation
- Guide or assist in the production of all documentation, presentations and statistical
information required by the Team, using appropriate software.
- Facilitate the organisation and continuous improvement of Council’s effluent waste
services.
- Produce and manage invoicing and statistical data for the effluent waste service.
- Monitor and review Council’s asbestos database ensuring that all data recorded in
the database is accurate; Assist Program Leader to develop, review and implement Project Management
Plans, ARCP’s, SOP’s, SWMS and other relevant processes and procedures
intrinsic to completing works programs, works carried out under the class B license,
and other works as required.
- Assist in development and delivery of asbestos awareness/safety materials including, all

from time to time to ensure compliance with the Asbestos Management Policy.
- Take on duties as directed by the Program Leader, Hazardous Materials
