**About the Stream, Group or Branch**:
Redress Group is responsible for the administration the National Redress Scheme (the Scheme) for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. The Scheme is a high priority for the Government and the department, with the ongoing commitment to continually improve outcomes for survivors. The Scheme interacts with survivors to provide an outcome that can make a real difference in people’s lives. The department is committed to the success of the Scheme and developing high performing staff who provide empathic, survivor focused, trauma informed support.

The National Redress Scheme for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse has been established in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The National Redress Scheme (the Scheme) is for eligible persons who experienced institutional child sexual abuse and is delivered by the Department of Social Services. The Scheme commenced on 1 July 2018 and will run for 10 years to 30 June 2028.

**Position Description**:
The Clinical Advisor provides oversight and specialist advice to staff working in the Service Delivery Branch, predominantly the Clinical Support Team, which forms part of the Redress Contact and Clinical Support Section. You will assist in promoting safe and trauma-informed approaches to all aspects of service delivery.

A primary focus is to ensure all interactions with survivors and their representatives are trauma-informed, respectful and safe as per the Australian Government’s governance framework and broader APS requirements under which the Scheme operates. The role requires a high degree of personal resilience and emotional intelligence. You will be required to manage competing priorities and sensitive and challenging matters, including escalated situations, often requiring an immediate response.

Duties may include some or all of the following:

- provide specialist knowledge about the nature and impact of child sexual abuse and ways to operationalise this knowledge using best practice and evidence based trauma-informed service delivery models
- provide leadership and oversight to the Clinical Support Team and support professional development in the areas of complex trauma, trauma-informed practice and the safety of survivors of childhood sexual abuse
- build the capability of those working in the National Redress Scheme to communicate with distressed and vulnerable applicants using best practice, evidence based trauma-informed frameworks
- support the Clinical Support Team to manage complex call requests and take carriage of sensitive cases and calls (e.g., highly vulnerable survivors)
- input specialist knowledge into the assessment process about the nature and impact of institutional child sexual abuse
- work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- develop and implement improvements and best practice in clinical processes and procedures.

Key skills/personal attributes:

- demonstrate specialist knowledge and experience in the nature and impact of child sexual abuse
- effectively impart information in writing and verbally
- work with culturally diverse, vulnerable or complex populations
- manage high volumes of work to meet critical deadlines in a sensitive environment
- work in, and with a team, and manage sensitive and difficult emerging and immediate situations, in accordance with trauma informed principles and the Public Service Act.

Qualifications and experience:

- a relevant tertiary qualification; such as social work, psychology or counselling
- Working with Vulnerable People
- working with survivors of child sexual abuse or in biopsychosocial assessment and intervention
- computer literacy skills, including the ability to use databases (Excel, SharePoint, QLIK, etc.) and reporting tools.

**Eligibility / Additional Requirements**:
This recruitment process is being used to fill current and future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies. A merit pool of suitable applicants will be created which may be used to fill future vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.

Non-ongoing vacancies will be offered for a period of up to 18 months with the possibility of extension (up to a total period of 3 years). Some of these non-ongoing vacancies may become ongoing in the next 18 months.

Should a position become ongoing then the merit pool established through this selection process may be used to fill the vacancy on an ongoing basis.To be eligible for employment with Department of Social Services (the department), you must be an Australian citizen.
