Technical Operator

This role is responsible for the precise technical execution of the overall look of the broadcast and maintaining on-air quality for all cameras and audio, routing sources, floor managing studio, and setting up all studio guests. It requires planning and foresight to prevent technical issues before they arise and involves working closely with studio, news and programs teams.

**What’s the role?**
- Ensuring a precise technical execution of the overall look of the broadcast.
- Preparing and operating technical equipment in studio and remote bureaus across Australia and Internationally including cameras, robotics, CCU units, autocue, studio computers, video walls, encoders, microphones and IFBs.
- Framing and composition of studio and remote cameras in accordance with each program’s style guide.
- Establishing clear communication paths with producers in regard to scheduled programs and breaking news.
- Regularly liaising with key production crew members in relation to planned outside broadcasts, events and live crosses.
- Collaborating and gathering key production information from producers and News Exchange about scheduled live hits.
- Creating mix minus feeds for guests.
- Working closely with Video Journalists across Australia and the world overseeing all technical aspects and troubleshooting for live crosses.
- Accessing remote studio equipment via virtual network connections and remote desktop connection.
- Assigning and monitoring multiple destinations as well as routing numerous external video/audio sources for broadcast use.
- Performing routine technical checks to ensure quality control across all external audio and video sources prior to transmission.
- Troubleshooting, including daily fault finding of studio equipment and working closely with engineering to resolve operational issues.

**Who you are**
- Experience in a live broadcast news environment.
- Clear communication skills.
- Excellent multitasking capabilities.
- Must be detail oriented and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced news environment.
- Proficient in shooting with a wide range of cameras and robotic related hardware and software.
- Mosart and Vinten knowledge preferred.
- CCU operation.
- Understanding of waveform monitors, routing switchers, hybrid switchboards, VSM.
- ENPS knowledge preferred, but not essential.
- Provide creative input and work closely with producers and production crew.
- Willingness to work across a rotating roster including mornings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Manual lifting.
