What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Leader, Strategy and Performance Office
managing the AFP’s engagement with external budget processes, with a focus on supporting the prioritisation, development and pursuit of New Policy Proposals (NPPs) through the Federal Budget; and
**coordinating the implementation of reforms across the AFP to**:
enhance external stakeholder understanding of the AFP's financial position, pressures and business cases for NPP's and
drive and support maturation of the AFP's internal financial operating model, including a positive financial management culture.
As a Team Leader you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
This recruitment process will be used to create a merit pool which may be drawn upon to fill vacancies in other teams in SPO (including Legislative Reform, Ministerial & Parliamentary Liaison, Cabinet Coordination, and Strategic External Forums).
What will you do?
As a Team Leader, Budget and Policy Priorities team, you will support the team to:
build and maintain collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders;
prepare strategic budget policy advice that is cognisant of operational drivers and the broader operating environment of the AFP and the government of the day;
develop robust rationales to support NPPs, and strong briefing to support the AFP Senior Executive’s participation in Cabinet and related meetings;
communicate effectively, including the ability to distil key issues, and negotiate innovative and practical solutions to complex problems;
enhance their own capability and promote better organisational understanding of the Federal Budget process, the AFP’s strategic approach to external budget matters; and
drive and manage change across the organisation, including in relation to processes, systems and culture.
Essential Requirements
Current NV1 (secret) security clearance, or ability to obtain one.
Experience in leading and managing a team to provide strategic policy advice or to coordinate implementation of an internal reform agenda.
Demonstrated ability to lead, model and enable a positive and inclusive culture; support the professional development of yourself and team member
