What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Leader Strategy, Design & Evaluation - International Command. This will be used to fill a number of vacancies and establish a merit pool for future opportunities over the next 12 months.

International Command (IC) leads the AFP’s forward global presence, in order to support international peace, stability and rule of law, and in doing so, make Australia safer and our partners safer. IC does this through police diplomacy: police-to-police relationships around the world that promote common interests, common models of policing and common values with our law enforcement partners in order to identify and take advantage of mutually beneficial opportunities.

IC’s SDE team is a key ingredient in the AFP’s police diplomacy capability.

As a Team Leader you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

As Team Leader SDE, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of SDE processes that shape the AFP’s police diplomacy efforts. These processes will be rigorous, robust, defensible and fit-for-purpose.

SDE International Strategy looks at the strategic intelligence picture and develops proposed courses of action within our forward presence to inform IC’s police diplomacy efforts.
SDE Design shapes our international programs and projects within our forward presence, aimed at maximising our police diplomacy efforts.
SDE Evaluation and Learning appraises and evaluates the effectiveness of our international activities, including capacity development programs and policing partnerships.
SDE Gender works with International Strategy to mainstream offshore gender equality initiatives within our police diplomacy efforts.
Essential Requirements

Above all else we are looking for current or emerging leaders who;
**Are a good cultural fit**: we want people who are good with people. We need someone with the right character who can demonstrate they are trustworthy, courageous and empathic.
Have a good understanding of the Australian Government foreign policy objectives; the AFP’s role in those objectives, and SDE’s place in that role.
Have experience leading and delivering evaluation processes for complex programs, whether in an international setting, policing context or for government programs.
Have strong interpersonal, analytical, and writing skills, who can distil complex narratives into easily understood SDE outputs for senior decision makers.
Can effectively represent the AFP’s interests in culturally and politically sensitive environments.
Can prioritise tasks to meet changing deadlines; who are highly resilient, and who have experience working in highly politicised, high tempo, high-risk environments.
Has a negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one. You also must be an Australian Citizen.
