Design Coordinator

**The opportunity**:
The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.
Symal is part of the Eastern Freeway - Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Laing O’Rourke, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

**The role**:
As our Alliance continues to grow, we are looking a Design Coordinator to join the Design and Engineering team in a permanent role.
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will work closely with the Design team and Delivery team to review packages of work, their constructability and ensure all project milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Ensure designs are in accordance with ‘Safety in Design’ procedures
- Establish and manage working relationship with Eastern BTA Engineering Management team, Project Engineers and Design Managers
- Agree scope, priorities, schedule and deliverables with Line Manager prior to proceeding. Control time and monitor progress
- Efficient planning and execution of works
- Provide good quality, valuable, reliable, trustworthy and timely project support
- Prepare alternative concepts and DfMA options where appropriate
- Ability to lead training session using software tools such as Autodesk Navisworks
- Utilise the DE model for planning and coordination checking and resolution using Autodesk Navisworks or a similar product
- Basic ability in 3D authoring systems such as Autodesk Revit, Tekla or PDMS
- Liaise with suppliers, clients, consultants or commissioning engineers concerning the design, installation, construction and commissioning of assigned work
- Comply with and exercise powers (if any), in accordance with Delegation of Authority Matrix

Who are you?
- Bachelors’ Degree in an Engineering Discipline eg. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Geotechnical
- More than 2 years’ experience in a Design Coordinator/Engineering Coordinator role or similar, on an Infrastructure, Roads or Major Project
- More than 4 years’ professional experience within Construction or Design
- Understanding of design codes, specifications, providing technical direction, issue resolution, providing quality assurance and producing reports
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to development and maintain relationships with stakeholders from various teams and ensure a collaborative work environment
- Ability to travel to and work from site offices in the eastern suburbs
