**About the role**
Are you a passionate junior doctor with Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) experience looking to advance your career in a supportive and dynamic environment? Western Health's Women’s Health team is excited to welcome enthusiastic junior medical staff for the 2026 clinical year, commencing on February 2nd, 2026.
Western Health offers comprehensive women’s health services across our network, encompassing a tertiary level service at the state-of-the-art Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s (JKWC) at Sunshine Hospital and a lower acuity service at Bacchus Marsh Hospital.
**About our services**:
Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s (JKWC), Sunshine Hospital: Opened in 2019, JKWC is a purpose-built facility equipped with cutting-edge technology. We proudly care for over 6,500 mothers annually and house a comprehensive tertiary team including Maternal Fetal Medicine, Obstetric Medicine, Obstetric Anaesthesia, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our Gynaecology services span general gynaecology, gynae-oncology, urogynaecology, and mínimally invasive surgery.
Bacchus Marsh Hospital: Joining the Western Health network in 2021, our lower-risk maternity service is poised for significant growth, anticipating approximately 1,000 births annually. The expanding gynaecology service supports a substantial number of theatre sessions and extensive ambulatory services.
**We are offering the following positions in 2026**:
- **O&G Un-Accredited Registrar Positions**: Ideal for doctors intending to pursue RANZCOG specialist training or establish a career as a Medical Officer within O&G.
**Key responsibilities**:
As an Unaccredited Junior Registrar, you can expect to gain experience in diverse areas, including:
- Providing care at Bacchus Marsh Hospital.
- Contributing as a junior registrar within one of our four team-based general O&G units.
- Managing labour ward and acute receiving duties.
- Participating in night duty (on call with senior support from a Level 5/6 Registrar).
- Elective Caesarean Section lists.
- Working in our Emergency Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EDOG) service.
- Contributing to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS).
- Conducting antenatal clinics.
- Working within the Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC).
- Participating in gynaecology outpatient clinics.
- Gaining surgical experience in gynaecology operating theatres (including minor procedures and potential co-rostering on more complex lists with RANZCOG trainees).
Furthermore, there may be opportunities to gain exposure to specialist services such as pelvic floor disorders, gynae-oncology, infertility, maternal-fetal medicine, and endoscopic surgery.
**About you**:
- A primary medical qualification (e.g., MBBS, MD) or equivalent, as recognised by AHPRA.
- Current medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without any conditions on practice.
- A minimum of 18 months of experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the HMO, SHMO, or Junior Registrar level.
