**Consumer Peer Support Worker (PSW)**

Be a part of an established peer support workgroup - based in Sunshine Hospital**:

Permanent part time position**:

- **Draw on your own personal lived / living experience of mental illness to support consumers admitted to the inpatient unit.**

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and resilient people to provide peer support and information to mental health consumers during the time of discharge and transition from the inpatient unit. The role aims to empower consumers to make informed choices about their recovery with an emphasis on building on personal strengths to move forward in the community once they’re discharged from the inpatient unit.

**Your new role**:

- Provide peer support and information to people admitted to the acute inpatient unit
- Support consumers for a short period following discharge from the acute inpatient unit to a range of other supports in the community.
- Be active collaborators in developing, reviewing and providing information resources for consumers and their families and carers.

**About You**:

- Ability to draw on your own lived / living experience in working alongside consumers
- Awareness of, and commitment to, your wellbeing and self-care as it relates to your work
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathic and compassionate approach
- Understanding of peer support and recovery principles
- Ability to work independently in an organised manner and while also taking direction for daily activities where required
