**The Role**
The Governance Officer will provide high-level support to the Directorate of Health Research (DHR) in administration, governance and business as usual activities. They will be accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex governance work, and have a well-developed understanding of and compliance with relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.

The Governance Officer will be accountable for managing the Defence Health Research inbox, managing the workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. This includes interpreting and providing advice within the governance function in relation to health research queries and performing procedural, clerical and administrative support work to achieve results.

They will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes and may undertake some research and analysis activities.

Joint Health Command (JHC) provides a joint health effect to enable Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability and care for our people. Through the delivery of best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition. As part of Joint Capabilities Group, we make a direct contribution to the ADF’s operational capability and provide crucial support to the war fighter.

Health Research is defined as an enabler in the ADF Health Strategy and linked to key functions within JHC and broader Defence community. The Directorate is responsible for strategic Defence health research, including Defence health research governance, support to health research initiatives, and health research dissemination and translation.

The team identifies and manages strategic health research priorities as well as engaging with internal and external research partners to undertake health research design, delivery and support to JHC. Directorate responsibilities include conducting, commissioning and facilitating health research, including quantitative and qualitative research, data management, analysis and reporting.

This position requires extensive experience in administration, research governance and stakeholder engagement. To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High-level research governance skills such as monitoring and reporting, documentation reviews and quality assurance checks.
- Experience with administrative tasks and maintaining databases, information systems and records in accordance with information management policies.
- Experience engaging positively with stakeholders, managing requests and queries with professionalism and responding to changes in stakeholder needs and expectations to achieve outcomes.
- Experience interpreting and complying with relevant corporate governance requirements including relevant legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures necessary to achieve work area outcomes.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team based environment, including ability to collaborate with a range of professionals, actively supporting the work area and team objectives.
- Experience with research and data analysis.
