Technical Specialist

The Technical Specialist - Underground is accountable for providing technical support on Caterpillar underground coal equipment in order to add value to our customers’ operation through achieving its maintenance and operational targets. Reporting to the Service Manager, the successful applicant will need to draw on previous skills and experience to develop strong and collaborative relationships with the OEM / Caterpillar. Through effective stakeholder engagement you will keep up-to-date with the latest equipment design and fully understand the technical details to then facilitate support and training both internally and externally on customer sites (including underground). As the Technical specialist, you will oversee the development, review and training packages internally and externally.

This position is based from our Mt Thorley Branch.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop and deliver Longwall equipment presentations, training material, resources, and assessment materials/tools to internal and external customers
- Provide ongoing client relationship support and education to build knowledge and skill base
- Actively engage with internal and external stakeholders to build strong relationships to understand training requirements and drive repeat/ongoing business for WesTrac
- Provide technical advice and support for maintenance activities performed on Caterpillar equipment both planned and unplanned
- Analyse production performance & downtime, conduct investigations, perform root cause analysis and make recommendations
- Proactively identify processes that would benefit from improvements and proactively participate in appropriate actions
- Work with key internal stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for new business, customer development and retention of customers to increase longwall market share

**Key Skills**
- Previous experience in developing & delivering training materials
- Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills both written and oral
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with key stakeholders
- Previous experience with underground coal and knowledge of Caterpillar equipment
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to analyse problems and provide appropriate solutions
- Demonstrated diagnostic skills and fault finding/root cause analysis skills (Desirable)
- Experience in conducting risk assessments (Desirable)

**Qualifications**
- Relevant Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certificate (Australian Trade Recognised) with a minimum 7 years’ experience as a Service Technician or related position.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a training and assessor role
