Key responsibilities of this role
- Recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people and support community engagement and co-design processes in accordance with cultural protocols.
- Manage a small team with responsibility for wellbeing programs to support the Local Thriving Communities Reform. In particular, support communities to realise locally led aspirations around alcohol management, employment and economic priorities, violence prevention, and respectful relationships.
- Manage administration and high-quality support for key Local Thriving Communities Wellbeing Programs including managing policy and program implementation, grants and contract management, and staff support and development.
- Work with government departments to represent the voice of the community in all policy and programs that impact Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Contribute to a team culture that is customer-focused and help improve productivity across government.
- Promote an accountable, fair and safe work environment through the implementation of management practices and policies, including performance management, equal opportunity/anti-discrimination and workplace health and safety.
- Initiate, influence and maintain positive relationships with and between internal and external stakeholders and facilitate effective communication channels to inform policy and programs aligned to the Local Thriving Communities reform.
- Contribute to a strength based departmental culture embedded in high expectation relationships, ensuring sensitive and effective communication with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, as well as an appreciation of the impacts of historical and current policies and practices.
