**Position Information**:
Figtree High School is a vibrant comprehensive school that sits near the sea on Dharawal lands beneath our two significant mountains, Djenbella (Mt Kembla) - the grandfather and Djeera (Mt Keira) - the grandmother. Our student population of 968 reflects a culturally diverse school community, including 35 Aboriginal students, 251 students with a language background other than English, 60 students grouped as having English as an additional language and/or dialect and 35 refugee students. Our school is enriched by an onsite physical disabilities class and an autism class, as well as an offsite support unit, the Flametree Campus.
The school is held in high regard by both the local and wider community for offering a broad curriculum and achieving quality educational outcomes for students from Year 7 to Year 12. We balance our academic curriculum with wide ranging extra-curricular opportunities where students excel. Our shared values of respect, responsibility and excellence drive the school's practices to ensure success for every student. Our dedicated staff encompass a wide range of skills and expertise. We are an active member of the Figtree Community of Schools, the Curriculum Networks Illawarra (CNI) and the Lake Illawarra North Network.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Proven capacity to lead a diverse team of learning support, and wellbeing professionals, to develop and implement quality learning and wellbeing programs.
- Knowledge and expertise of Department of Education wellbeing and learning support policies and procedures, including evidence of management of whole school wellbeing and learning support.
- Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills to build relationships and partnerships within a diverse school community and with external agencies
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school processes and initiatives that support the school’s strategic directions.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
