**About the branch and teams**:
Energy efficiency will play a vital role in achieving the Australian Government’s ambitious emission reduction targets of 43 per cent (on 2005 levels) by 2030 and net zero by 2050. The Industrial Energy Efficiency Branch is looking to fill vacancies at the APS5, APS6 and EL1 level. You will have the opportunity to develop and implement new policies and programs to improve energy efficiency in the industrial and commercial sectors, while assisting to deliver the Australian Government’s Powering Australia Plan, and the Trajectory for Low Energy Buildings.

Positions are available in the following teams:

- Energy Efficiency Policy and International;
- Industrial Energy Efficiency Policy;
- Business Energy Efficiency; and
- Commercial Buildings Policy.

The **Energy Efficiency Policy and International Section** develops national energy efficiency policy, including future energy efficiency opportunities. The section also leads international energy efficiency engagement through bilateral and multilateral forums and International Energy Agency working groups.

The **Industrial Energy Efficiency Policy Section **assists Australian industry with programs such as industrial process heat and energy productivity benchmarks. The section leads industrial energy efficiency policy development, advice and collaboration including projects such as adoption and commercialisation of new technologies, research and analysis into benefits of digitalisation, net-zero ready manufacturing and the role of automation in energy efficiency.

The **Business Energy Efficiency Section **develops policy and programs to support Australia's small and medium-sized businesses to manage their energy use, by providing targeted advice, incentives and technological insights.

The **Commercial Buildings Policy Section** manages policies and programs which reduce the greenhouse gas emissions emitted by Australia’s commercial buildings sector through improving their energy performance. This includes supporting the development and expansion of the National Australian Built Environment Ratings System (NABERS) and the further development of the National Construction Code. The section is also responsible for operation and improvement of the Commercial Building Disclosure Program, a significant regulatory program which mandates the disclosure of building energy ratings.

Knowledge or experience of energy efficiency policy or programs will be well regarded, including professional experience, but is not essential.

You will demonstrate skills and attributes in the following areas:

- Excellent judgement and initiative
- Organisational skills, particularly the ability to manage competing priorities and short turn-around requests
- Ability to build strong working relationships within the Division, the Department and externally.

As a member of the team, you will:
APS Level 5:

- Prepare briefings, papers and other communication
- Undertake analysis of energy efficiency policies, opportunities and benefits
- Assist with administrative and logístical tasks such as coordination request and meeting organisation
- Assist in the delivery of key energy efficiency projects
- Working collaboratively to build and sustain relationships with team members, liaising with other branches cross the division to achieve outcomes

APS Level 6:

- Analyse energy efficiency policies, opportunities and benefits
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally to foster effective collaboration
- Conduct research, analysis and develop documentation to support strategic policy or project work.
- Draft clear and succinct briefing, papers and other communication supported by data
- Assist the section in developing policy options to improve industrial energy efficiency
- Deliver key energy efficiency projects

**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

**Security Clearance**:
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

**Notes**:
Both permanent transfers and temporary higher duties will be considered.
