**The Role**
The Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO) works across the Department of Education, driving the department’s data agenda through work on cross-cutting issues involving data and data governance. Data governance refers to the frameworks, policies and processes that the department follows to maximise the value of data while managing risks.

The team actively works to build the capability of all staff to better use and understand data. The team also leads and contributes to data governance projects across the department and the broader APS. This work is often responsive, sometimes fast paced, and requires creative solutions to a diverse range of existing and emerging issues.

Reporting to an Assistant Director, the Data Governance Officer contributes to the implementation of the department’s Data Strategy and assists with work to build departmental capability in managing and using data effectively for policy and program delivery. The areas of focus of the Data Strategy are:

- culture and leadership
- staff capability
- governance
- analytics and visualisation
- data release, sharing and use and
- data infrastructure.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
In this role, you may be responsible for the following:

- Assisting with initiatives to deliver the department’s Data Strategy including contributing to department wide data projects and advice in the above focus areas.
- Supporting and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the department’s data agenda.
- Communicating complex information to a range of audiences through high-quality written materials including papers, presentations, briefs and reports.
- Helping to undertake and/or design activities to support the department’s data capability, including but not limited to the development of reference and training materials.
- Conveying a positive and professional image of the department and modelling the expected behaviours of the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values.
