**Communications Consultant**

**Jobs, tasks and responsibilities - Junior Communications Consultant**
The successful applicant will undertake a wide range of work across a variety of clients and help promote SEC Newgate’s capabilities - no day will be the same as the one before

You will be a core member of the SEC Newgate Melbourne team who will help provide clients with a truly integrated solution when facing a complex communications challenge - this could include strategy development and implementation, issues management, government relations, media relations, community and stakeholder engagement, market and social research and digital communications. You will have the opportunity to grow your skills and career with access to skilled Senior Consultants.

**Daily tasks include**:

- Proactive monitoring of policy and political issues
- Desktop research to support client briefs
- Assist with proof-reading and formatting documents
- Logistics support for client work, meetings, and functions
- Note-taking and initial drafting of documents
- Media monitoring and analysis
- Preparation of activity reports with input from the broader team
- Actively develop a solid understanding of communications and/or public affairs and client management practices to:

- Support the development and implementation of strategies for clients including collateral development (media releases, factsheets, social media posts), stakeholder engagement programs, events (roundtables, conferences)
- Work across multiple client briefs concurrently

**Ideally, you are**:

- Interested in the political and policy development process, current affairs, and the media
- Highly organised with an eye for detail
- Collaborative and adaptable with a can-do attitude with great interpersonal skills
- Curious and proactive to identify innovative ideas to progress projects for clients
- Able to balance multiple deadlines to contribute effectively and constructively to your project teams and across multiple practice areas
- Committed to ongoing professional development
- Resilient and calm under pressure - comfortable working to deadlines and across multiple client accounts concurrently

**Your practical skills and experience should include**:

- At least 2 years of professional experience in politics, public affairs or strategic communications
- Ideally a relevant tertiary qualification in Communications, Arts, Public Relations, Law, Politics or Social Science
- Strong writing capabilities - the confidence and ability to write clearly and succinctly
- Strong analytical skills to absorb complex and technical information and turn it into clear and concise information
- Organisation skills - capable of setting up and adhering to your system of structuring your workday, prioritising tasks, methodically completing regular tasks and proactive working on the implementation of communications plans
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and listening skills
- Positive approach with a good sense of humour
